brown sugar in progress

I had looked around for a dark rum cocktail that skipped the usual limey fruitness and focused on the brown sugar and molasses flavors, but didn't find much. I made this up from what little cocktail knowledge I have absorbed thus far. This drink is in progress.... getting there, but needs more body. Stay tuned, and your input appreciated.
1.5 oz Barbencourt 8 Year dark rum
0.75 oz Carpano Antica
1 Tbsp brown sugar simple syrup
12 drops Bittermans Xocolatl Mole bitters
1 tsp Benedicitne

funky dark and stormy beta

I just made a funky sort of Dark and Stormy. Perhaps with much improvement it will taste...improved.
The sweetness and ginger were right, but the somewhere between the lime and the Cruzan Black Strap rum there arose a sour funkdifiedness that reminded me of that Triaminic medicine I used to have to down as a kid. So, I do not yet recommend the following combination.
1.5 oz Cruzan Black Strap rum
0.5 oz lime juice
0.75 oz brown sugar simple syrup
10 drops Bittermans Xocolatl Mole bitters
fresh ginger juice to taste
